The Braddick and Sherborne families have run businesses in Bideford for over 100 years. It wasn't until 2001 however that the families joined forces to become Braddicks and Sherborne Funeral Directors. As a family business we believe in looking after everyone's loved one as if they are one of our own, providing the very best of care and focusing on the needs of the family at all times. We are exceptionally proud of our exemplary local reputation and pride ourselves on providing a personal, caring, 24 hour service to the people of North Devon.
Lee Sherborne was born and grew up in the town of Bideford and so it is particularly important to him not to let his birthplace down in any way. Lee began working in the family funeral business at 14 years old and has never looked back. His work is of an exceptionally high standard and he takes great pride in delivering a highly compassionate, caring, sensitive and dignified service when dealing with people at their most difficult time of need.
Ben Braddick also grew up in Bideford and has worked within his family furnishing firm 'Braddicks Furnishers' for many years, he and Lee have been best friends since childhood. Although Ben's daily commitments are within the furnishing business he still has a very active role in the funeral company and has been instrumental in the expansion and development of our Ilfracombe office.
In 2008, Lee enlisted the help of Tracey, a long term friend of the family, who works alongside Lee as an Administrator / Arranger and is an integral part of the team in Bideford. Tracey is mainly office based and administers the donations, designs the orders of service, writes newspaper obituaries, confirms funerals and sends accounts. Tracey has a wealth arranging experience having worked as a Funeral Administrator at other local Funeral Directors for many years before joining Lee.
In 2014 Andy Punchard joined our very busy office, coming from a background in farming he feels he had a calling into the funeral industry some years ago. Since working with us he has fulfilled his dream to become a Funeral Director and is now based in our newest branch in Ilfracombe. Andy who is also a Devonian is keen to follow in Lee's footsteps and serve the community of Ilfracombe the way Lee has served Bideford for the last 30 plus years.
Brie is our newest member and joined us in 2018. She covers the administration in Ilfracombe where she’s lived for over 30 years.
In our team we also have Paul, Roger, Peter and Micky who drive our vehicles and assist on the day of the funeral.
At Braddicks and Sherborne we pride ourselves on providing high quality funeral services, offering flexibility and willingness to respond to your wishes. Warmth, safe-keeping, quality and continuity of care are the overriding features of our nurturing organisation. You will sense that the people in our care are treated as the individuals they were, and still are. Our guiding principle is to do whatever it takes to make sure that the families we serve are happy with the funerals we arrange.
Braddicks and Sherborne have two offices. One on the end of Abbotsham Road in Bideford and our new office on the corner of St Brannocks Park Road and St Brannocks Road, Ilfracombe . Both our buildings offer chapel of rest viewing rooms and full private facilities giving you the security of knowing it is us personally who are looking after your loved ones. Our arranging rooms are set out in a comfortable but formal style of settees and chairs. This is a conscious choice to help you feel more at ease at this difficult time. We believe that as well as feeling cared for, people want the confidence that comes from knowing that you are in the hands of people who know their business.
Where families are deeply distressed or less ready to proceed, a home arrangement is offered. Up to 70% of our arrangements are conducted at home.
You should always make enquiries before engaging a funeral director, ensuring you obtain a full estimate of costs, disbursements and newspaper charges so there are no nasty surprises when you receive the final bill.
Prices are displayed in both our offices and we will gladly give you an estimate of costs at any time.
You will find we offer good value for money, but if funds are an issue then please tell us your budget and we will do our best to work as close to that as possible with you. We will not try to sell you things you do not need.
Continuity of Care
Our training is very thorough and it means you can be sure that whoever you speak to, you will receive the same high quality of care and service.
When you phone it will always be answered by Tracey, Sheriena, Lee or Andy .
It will always be one of us who will collect, dress and look after your loved one whilst they are in our care, so if you would like same sex dressing then please just advise us and we will ensure this is carried out for you.
The person with whom you arrange the funeral will lead the cortege on the day except in exceptional circumstances.
